Fans mock as Red Sox blow 9 – 0 lead against Yankees; Jose Canseco also weighs in

The day after Fenway’s 100th birthday, the Red Sox blew a 9-0 lead over the New York Yankees.

If the Yankees win, this will match the biggest comeback in team history. It's happened 4 other times, most recently in 2006.

Last time Red Sox blew a 9-0 lead & lost to Yankees was June 26, 1987. Boston blew a 9-0 lead w/ Roger Clemens starting. NY won 12-11 in 10.

And comeback they did.

NY Yankees raining all over Red Sox Fenway 100th Anniversary weekend, win 15-9 … after trailing 9-0. Woo hoo! LET'S GO, YANKEES! #fb #MLB

Red Sox fans were not too pleased, to say the least.

Now does everyone understand why Red Sox pitchers drink in the locker room?

Red Sox have blown a 9-0 lead against the Yankees. Down 10-9. Will Bobby V make it until May?

#Drama RT @NathanWurtzel: If the Yankees pull this off, the Red Sox should just quit.

I'm making a list of the stuff Red Sox players are hawking on the radio so I don't ever buy any of it.

You gotta love the Red Sox. It's never too late to lose.

— Suzy Welch (@SuzyWelch) April 21, 2012

Dear Red Sox Bullpen, just making sure you guys know that you're supposed to stop the other team from scoring. Sincerely, Josh.

Good thing there’s no crying in baseball! Other fans were quick to gloat, in somewhat amusing fashion.

I love when the Yankees beat the Red Sox in such a fashion that media folks scramble through record books to see when a team failed so badly

Remember that time when the Red Sox led the Yankees 9-0 and Sox fans thought the game was over? #Yankees

Reminder to Bobby Valentine: the descendants of the people who ran the Salem witch trials are Red Sox fans.

— Dan McLaughlin (@baseballcrank) April 21, 2012

RT @BuzzFeedAndrew: What's the only thing better than watching the Red Sox lose? Watching the Red Sox lose in spectacular fashion.

— Ben Domenech (@bdomenech) April 21, 2012

Red Sox coach Bobby Valentine trended on Twitter, but not in the good way.

Hey Bobby Valentine – you're trending! #congratsbutnotreally
