Change is coming to the Air Force:

CNN JUST IN: U.S.Air Force ends mandatory "So help me God" part of enlistment oath

More from the Las Vegas Review-Journal:

A Creech Air Force Base technical sergeant who scratched the words “so help me God” from his oath paperwork will be allowed to re-enlist, according to a legal opinion issued Wednesday by the Secretary of Defense General Counsel.

“The resulting opinion concluded that an individual may strike or omit the words ‘So help me God’ from an enlistment or appointment oath if preferred,” Lt. Col. Christoper P. Karns, an Air Force spokesman, wrote in an email.

He said the Air Force will soon update its instructions, but the policy change is effective now.

@vplus @jaketapper The more society gives in to liberal/progressive demands, the more fucked up the world becomes. #hellinhandbasket

@cdyjr Ultimately, they serve the country. What God they believe (or don't) believe in doesn't mean a lick so long as they uphold the oath.

@vplus @jaketapper I took the oath when I was sworn in & it made me feel good! I'm not sure I want the man next to me to reject this oath.

— RockOnBlaze (@rockonblaze) September 17, 2014

The oath is meant to be sacred. How could you remove "so help me god"? Dont enlist if you dont believe in what our forefathers set forth.

— nisha gillz (@ANishlovanz) September 17, 2014

@vplus @jaketapper Sad that that's a priority in our country. Sad that our traditions are being dismantled for the intolerance of a few
