‘Tijuana Tornado’ calls it quits

Antonio Margarito, properly nicknamed the “Tijuana Tornado” for his lightning quick fighting style, announced his retirement on Thursday at the age of 34.

The fighter won three welterweight world titles, but will likely be more infamously remembered for his plastered hand wraps scandal before his fight with Shane Mosley in 2009.

Margarito: "If I cannot compete at 100% in the ring, I don't want to go back. It's time for me to retire." @TonyMarg

My generation's boxing greats all retired this week. S/o to Antonio Margarito, Shane Mosley, and Winky Wright on impeccable careers

Antonio Margarito has retired from boxing. The loaded gloves smear ruins his career but prior to the first Cotto match he was a joy to watch

Antonio Margarito retired…a warrior in the ring who's legacy is tainted cuz of the plaster wraps. But a warrior still #salute #boxing
